Visiting us for the first time this year is the Folklore ensemble “Someșul Napoca” from Romania. Founded in 1973 by the artistic director Dr.Zamfir Dejeu, the ensemble stands out for its specificity and universality in the field, being distinguished internationally.

The ensemble highlights the characteristics of Romanian tradition through music, song and dance, with its wide range originating from the country’s most important folkloric areas: Someș Valley, Transylvanian Plain, Huedin, Bihor, Meseș Basin, Codru, Târnave, Maramureș, Hunedoarashowcase. These showcase optimism, vitality and pride for the Romanian culture and people. Some of the most complex dances stem from the Transylvanian Plain. These blend binary, syncopated and asymmetrical sounds to create a true polyrhythm, supported by the Transylvanian Trio of violin, viola and double bass. The beauty of the choreography is enhanced by the colours of the folk costumes that represent the colours of the earth, which is sure to be a beautiful image of Romania this July on our stage at the European Youth week.
